While I was living in Hokkaido I never really got to do any music besides just goofing around by myself recording short little songs. Now that I am back in the Hanamaki and Morioka area I have tons of friends who play music. The other night I was doing photography work for a local festival and after I went to go see my friend play at a concert outside on a large street in front of a record store. I was perfectly content just having a beer and watching but I was invited to sit in on a few songs playing the drums.
I have a drum-set but rarely play it because I don't want to get my neighbors angry and also just playing drums by yourself isn't that amazing. I thought I would be incredibly rusty but I managed to play two songs and had a great time. Because I haven't played in a long time my hands are like baby hands compared to someone who actually drums a lot. The sticks quickly gave me three huge blisters. When I was drumming a lot in my late teens and early twenties I had huge calluses and until now I hadn't really realized how important they were. My hands simply can't play for long periods of time. In a few weeks my friends are going to be throwing an event in downtown Hanamaki. I was never a great DJ but I had equipment and learned how to do it and I am being asked to do a short DJ set at that event too. I am really happy that I have friends who actually invite me to do cool things again. Because I was in such a remote area of Hokkaido I had nothing like what I have in Iwate. Anyways this is just going to be a short blog and I'll post some pictures of the DJ event after. Thanks for reading.
